CUSTOM BACKSPLASH · DAYTON OHIO
A great backsplash is invisible in the best way — every cut intentional, every grout line perfectly even, scribed clean against countertops, cabinets, and outlets. The bad ones show up immediately: crooked rows, uneven grout, awkward cuts under upper cabinets.
RA Cooks Renovations has been installing backsplashes across the Miami Valley since 1987 — full kitchen remodels, standalone backsplash refreshes, and rental property updates. Most jobs come in through our Kettering design center where you can see real samples against your counter color.
SCOPE OF WORK
Classic 3"×6" or 4"×12" subway in white, ivory, or color. Stacked, offset, or vertical patterns. Always-on-trend, never goes out of style.
Small-format mosaic tile in glass, marble, or porcelain — adds shimmer and visual texture without overwhelming the kitchen.
Bookmatched stone or quartz slab from countertop to under-cabinet. Premium look, minimal grout lines, fewer maintenance worries.
Pattern tile for accent or full-wall backsplashes. Adds movement and character without committing to a bold color.
Tile from countertop all the way to ceiling — turns the cooking wall into the focal point of the kitchen.
Mixed-pattern tile, hand-painted accents, metal strips. A small splash of detail behind the range without overwhelming the rest.
OUR PROCESS
Showroom visit or in-home — pattern, grout color, layout planning, and edge details before anything gets ordered.
Walls cleaned, holes patched, primer where needed. Outlets disconnected and recessed. Counter and cabinet edges protected.
Pattern mapped so cuts land at corners and under cabinets — never as half-tiles in the middle of the wall.
Full-spread thinset (no spot-bonding), proper trowel size, and consistent grout joints. Spacers used and double-checked at every row.
Color-matched grout, smooth joints, sealed if natural stone. Caulk (not grout) at counter and corner transitions so it can flex without cracking.
Outlets reset with proper extenders, edges checked, every grout line inspected. Job-site clean before we leave.
MATERIALS
The workhorse backsplash material. Wide pattern range, easy to clean, fair to high price range depending on detail.
Reflective and shimmery — adds light to a darker kitchen. Often used as accent strips behind the range.
Premium look, requires sealing. Variation tile-to-tile is a feature, not a flaw — pick from our showroom samples.
Same material as the countertop, run up the wall. Continuous look, easier to clean than tile, more expensive upfront.
Classic 3"×6" or 4"×12" in offset, stacked, or vertical patterns. Always works, always on-trend.
Hand-painted, metal accent strips, encaustic-look porcelain. Mixed with field tile to add character at focal points.

FAQ
How long does backsplash installation take?
A standard kitchen backsplash takes 2–3 days — one day to install, one for grout and seal. Slab and full-height jobs can run 3–5 days. Outlet rework happens during the install.
Do I have to replace my counters first?
Not necessarily, but it's the cleanest workflow. Backsplash sits on top of the counter, so a new counter + new backsplash gets you a perfectly aligned end result.
Will you handle the outlet covers and switches?
Yes. We disconnect, recess, and re-extend outlets so they sit flush with the new tile thickness. Your existing covers usually still work; if not, we replace them.
Can you match my existing backsplash for a partial replacement?
Sometimes. We can usually source matching tile if the line is still made. If not, we recommend doing the whole wall to avoid an obvious patch.
Is your backsplash work warrantied?
Yes. Our installation work carries a written workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the tile vary by product.
