TUB-TO-SHOWER CONVERSION · DAYTON OHIO
Tub-to-shower conversions are the most-requested bathroom remodel we do. The old soaking tub gets pulled, the wall behind it opens up, and what comes back is a modern walk-in shower with proper waterproofing — Schluter or Wedi membrane, a sloped pre-pitched pan, custom tile, and a glass enclosure. Done right, it's the upgrade that finally makes your bathroom feel new.
We've been doing this conversion across the Miami Valley since 1987 — primary baths, guest baths, basement bathrooms, and accessibility upgrades for homeowners aging in place. Most jobs come in through our Kettering design center where you can see real tile, glass, and fixture options.
SCOPE OF WORK
Old tub pulled, drain capped, debris hauled away. Wall tile and surround removed back to studs in the wet area.
Tub valve relocated to shower height. New mixing valve, shower head, and (optional) hand-held wand or rain head. Drain converted from tub to shower.
Schluter or Wedi membrane on walls and floor. Pre-pitched pan with linear or center drain. This is the layer that prevents leaks for the next 30 years.
Walls, floor, and niche. Subway, mosaic, large-format, or stone — full design at our Kettering showroom before any tile gets cut.
Frameless or semi-frameless tempered glass. Custom-measured after tile is installed for a perfect fit. Hinge or sliding door options.
Curbless threshold, grab bars (blocked behind tile for solid mounting), built-in seat or fold-down bench, hand-held wand on slide bar.
OUR PROCESS
In-home or showroom — layout, drain placement, tile selection, glass type, and accessibility needs. Clear written estimate before any work starts.
Tub removed, walls opened, plumbing reconfigured for shower. Studs added where grab bars or seats will go.
Membrane installed and seam-sealed. Pre-pitched pan set with proper slope to drain. Pressure-tested before any tile goes on.
Walls, niche, floor, and curb (or curbless threshold). Full-spread thinset, consistent grout joints, scribed clean to ceiling and floor.
Glass measured and installed after tile cures. Shower head, valve trim, hand-held wand, and any grab bars or accessories mounted into pre-blocked walls.
Water tested, every grout line checked, glass aligned, drainage confirmed. We don't leave until you've signed off in person.
MATERIALS
Our most-installed configuration. Custom tile walls, floor, and niche. Schluter membrane underneath. Lifetime-grade installation when done right.
One-piece or three-piece walls in solid colors or stone-look patterns. Faster install, lower cost, easier maintenance — but less customization.
Long, narrow drain at one wall. Allows for a single-direction slope and a more modern look. Pairs well with large-format floor tile.
Tempered glass without metal framing. Modern, minimal look. Custom-measured after tile install.
No threshold to step over. ADA-compatible. Requires deeper floor recession and careful slope design.
Recessed niches with finished returns, fold-down or built-in benches, grab bars blocked solidly behind tile, multi-head shower systems.

FAQ
How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?
A standard conversion runs 7–10 working days from demo to final walk. Larger custom showers with stone or specialty drains can take 2 weeks. We give you a written timeline before starting.
Will I lose resale value by removing the tub?
Only if it's the only tub in the home. Most homes have a guest bath with a tub — converting the primary bath to a walk-in shower is widely considered an upgrade now, not a loss.
Is a curbless shower harder to install?
Yes — it requires more floor framing rework and careful slope design. We can do it, but it adds time and cost. We'll walk you through the trade-offs before quoting.
Do I need a permit?
For most tub-to-shower conversions in the Miami Valley, yes — plumbing changes trigger permits. We pull all permits and handle the inspections so you don't have to.
Is your conversion work warrantied?
Yes. Our installation carries a written workmanship warranty. Waterproofing membrane systems carry their own manufacturer warranties (Schluter, Wedi, etc.) that we transfer to you.
